This focused workshop introduces the use of genograms as a powerful tool for exploring family patterns, relationships, and dynamics within the counselling process. A genogram is more than a family tree—it visually maps emotional connections, generational patterns, and significant life events that can influence a client’s current behaviour, beliefs, and relationships.
Ideal for counselling trainees and practitioners, the workshop offers both theoretical background and practical guidance on how to co-create genograms with clients in a sensitive, collaborative way. Participants will learn how to use genograms to support exploration of identity, cultural heritage, intergenerational trauma, and repeated relational patterns.
Through experiential exercises, group discussion, and case examples, attendees will gain confidence in applying genograms to deepen client insight and therapeutic connection. This workshop invites reflection not only on client material, but also on your own family influences as part of developing relational awareness in practice.
